Top Three Unmissable Family Shows on Icon of the Seas

Updated: Apr 11

1. Wizard of Oz

Follow Dorothy over the rainbow to the wonderful land of Oz. Royal Caribbean has found a way to bring a full-scale Broadway Show to a cruise ship. This classic tale from 1939 has received a couple modern tweaks to make it a little more relatable to audiences but the story and songs remain the same. From sets and characters that fly overhead to incredibly talented singers, musicians and dancers the whole family will enjoy this show. This performance showcases a 16-piece orchestra, the most expansive on the sea. Lasting approximately 90 minutes, the show consistently leaves audiences craving more. While all seats in the theater provide excellent views, for a closer experience with the action, aim for the lower section, approximately six rows back.

This show takes place on select days in the Royal Theater on Deck 5.

2. Starburst: Elemental Beauty

Although ice skating shows are not a novelty on Royal Caribbean cruises, this latest show feels rejuvenated with an upgraded venue, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the experience. Starburst: Elemental Beauty is a show that combines ice skating, juggling, large screen projections and familiar music to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The premise of the show is an artistic view of the periodic table and the elements that make up life. The newly designed oval theater guarantees a fantastic view of the ice action from every seat. The costumes effectively mirror the elements being portrayed. Witnessing the talented cast execute jumps, spins, and lifts on ice while the ship is in motion is truly remarkable! A standout moment of the show is the juggler skillfully juggling balls cascading from above.

This show takes place on select nights in the ice-skating rink, Absolute Zero on Deck 4.

3. AquaDome – Aqua Action!

This marks the 6th Royal Caribbean ship to feature an Aqua Theater. While the concept isn't new, the experience and venue are exceptionally unique. Aqua Action offers an exhilarating blend of diving, synchronized swimming, aerial dancing, and a captivating light show. Set to familiar music from blockbuster movies, this show is immensely popular and guarantees to please the crowd.

The AquaDome, the first enclosed Aqua Theater positioned at the ship's front, allows shows to proceed even in rainy conditions. Seating is arranged in a circular fashion, offering bench seating and more comfortable, padded seats with tables for drinks along the top row. Ensuring you arrive at least 30 minutes before the show guarantees a wider selection of seats. Moreover, attending the show earlier in your voyage is advisable, as rough seas may lead to cancellations.

This show takes place on select nights in the AquaDome on Deck 15. Reservations are required and can be made 30 days prior to sailing in the Royal Caribbean App OR on Cruise Planner. If you do not make reservations prior to boarding, you can also make a reservation once on board at the box office.
